Brow Confidence is all about building a community of women that want a better future for their brows (and go to Lien Davies for it!). In this new series of journal posts every month, get to know other Brow Confident women better as they share their unique brow experiences, routines and tips.

Name: Alison Rice
Age: 32
Occupation: Group Publisher POPSUGAR, Who What Wear, Byrdie and MyDomaine Australia.

Tell us, what was your first brow experience?

I’ve got many waxing horror stories and nurtured many-a-tadpole eyebrow back to life. But my first brow grooming experience was pretty bad because the wax was so hot it burnt my skin and left a mark. I continued to put my skin through that until I met Lien. I found her through a ZFB blog post (but didn’t we all find just about everything through her?).

“It was such a different experience because Lien asked me to email a picture of my brows so she could decide if she could help me.”

She then gave me a diagnosis which included spending six months growing them out before I saw her. Torture, but six years later and people stop me in the street to ask where I get them done. My brows are my pride and joy.

What is your current brow routine?

I am big on brow maintenance. Lien taught me how to trim and where to pluck between appointments (I only see her once every four-five months now).

Each morning I’ll get rid of any strays, then brush them up before using the Kevyn Aucoin Precision Brow Pencil. I lightly feather it on then brush the product through my brows thoroughly to break any sharp lines. I spend about five minutes getting the product amount and shape right, and if they are off, then I have a bad day. I haven’t found a brow product that is as effective as the Kevyn Aucoin pencil, although I do rate the IT Cosmetics one for a softer look.

When it comes to trimming, I do this once every five or so weeks. I brush them up and use manicure scissors to gently trim my top brow line. I find removing that length adds fullness and they also become way easier to shape.

What does “Brow Confidence” mean to you?

It means being able to walk confidently into any room and know my face is open and bright. Brow Confidence is also about opening up beauty dialogue between women. I love talking about my brows, and how Lien has really changed not only my face – symmetry and openness – but also my approach to beauty.

“If my brows look full and healthy, then I can spend less time doing my makeup and more time DOING DEALS.”

Describe your brows in 3 words –

Feathered, full, manicured.
