“It involved my friends taking me to a woman who had titled herself “Queen of the Arch” after school. I left with thin, arched eyebrows which was the style at the time, but not at all appropriate for my eyebrow and face shape.”

What is your current brow routine?

“I see Lien every few months for a trim and shape. Each morning I brush up my eyebrows with a spoolie and use brow soap (Pears soap and water) to help hold them in place. My face seems brighter, I feel more polished, and it has become an essential part of my morning routine. A spoolie would be my desert island beauty product.”

“My face seems brighter, I feel more polished, and [doing my brows] has become an essential part of my morning routine.”

What does “Brow Confidence” mean to you?

“Embracing my natural shape to work for me rather than trying to make it fit into something else.”

How did you find out about Lien?

“A friend referred me to Lien and I knew from my first appointment that I would not let anyone else touch my eyebrows. She worked on balancing my eyebrows and showed me the areas in which I needed to grow out. What surprised me was that she shortened the tail which no one had ever done before. It instantly made my eyebrows look fuller and my eyes appear larger.”

Biggest lesson you’ve taken away during your time with Lien/Brow Confidence?

“To conceal around your eyebrows to define the shape rather than adding colour. This helps to give further definition to my eyebrows without the heaviness that colouring brings to my already very dark eyebrows.”

Describe your brows in three words.

“Essential, natural, and refined. “

“It was at the Benefit Brow Bar in Myer Sydney City. I was working at the Cue concession upstairs, and would go there on my lunch break, probably too often. I think I was 21, and I was terrible at beauty as a teenager – honestly, my younger sister taught me how to shave my legs before I went into high school – so I hadn’t overplucked, but that brow bar was a bit hit and miss.”

What is your current brow routine?

“I will say, outside of coffee and brushing my teeth, it’s my most consistent routine.

At Lien’s request, I brush my brows up with a disposable mascara wand (I buy the packs from Priceline) and a lathering of Pears soap. In the mornings when I’m actually doing my brows, I pencil them in first with the MECCA MAX Brow Guru Micro-Matic Pencil in Dark. I was very proud Lien approved of the colour when I brought it in. I use it for the colour (so many brow products are way too warm!), but it’s a nice consistency too. It just runs out very quickly, so I also order in bulk.

The other thing that I’m newly doing (Lien has graduated me), is adding hair strokes with Anastasia Beverly Hills Micro-Stroking Detailing Brow Pen in Granite. It takes some practice and time, so it’s mainly happening for big occasions.”

“The thing Lien said that really made me think differently about brows, and beauty in general, is that it takes effort!”

What does “Brow Confidence” mean to you?

“I started seeing Lien in July last year, and the thing she said that really made me think differently about brows, and beauty in general, is that it takes effort! And you get out what you put in. I think I’d spent so long promoting beauty products as being ‘easy’ or ‘simple’ that I sort of brainwashed myself into thinking it didn’t take any work.

So to me, brow confidence means taking charge of your brow regime and focusing on developing your skill and finding what works, rather than some wonder product or treatment that supposedly does it all for you.”

How did you find out about Lien?

“I knew of Lien, but I remember asking Alison Rice (my former boss, and friend!) about her and she told me how amazing she is. I’d been living interstate for a few years so it was my time to go see her. I texted her my photographs and she immediately called me and told me she could help me. But she wanted me to start by relaxing my forehead. I hadn’t realised but I was raising one eyebrow, like a lot, when I was smiling, and I’m a smiley person!”

Biggest lesson you’ve taken away during your time with Lien/Brow Confidence?

“Draw the shape you want, not just what’s there.”

Describe your brows in three words.

“Important, pampered, and (now) good.”

Tell us about your first brow grooming experience?

“It involved 14-year-old me, a pair of Body Shop tweezers, and a magnifying mirror… So, a total disaster.”

What is your current brow routine?

“Thanks to Lien, I’m really happy with the shape of my brows now, so it’s just about keeping them neat and tidy because they can grow very fast and become a bit long and unruly.

I see Lien every few months for a big trim and the rest of the time I pluck my stray hairs every few days, then I just brush them up with a tinted brow gel or pomade, using either Glossier Boy Brow or MCoBeauty More Brows.

If I’m doing full glam, I’ll fill them in properly with a tool like Benefit Brow Microfilling Pen or just a matte brown eyeshadow on a really thin paintbrush I bought from a craft shop.”

“Thanks to Lien, I’m really happy with the shape of my brows now, so it’s just about keeping them neat and tidy.”

What does “Brow Confidence” mean to you?

“Being able to leave the house without having to ‘do’ my eyebrows first. I love not wearing makeup so having good natural brows makes me feel put together when I’ve got a bare face.”

How did you find out about Lien?

“An old colleague of mine waltzed into the office one day with fabulous looking eyebrows, so obviously I harassed her into giving me Lien’s number immediately.

The main thing I remember from my first appointment is that Lien was encouraging me to see her as little as possible and maintain my brows mostly by myself, which I was astonished by. I used to get my brows done every 2-4 weeks, but it was becoming too expensive and hard to fit into my schedule. She wanted me to learn to love a more natural, fluffier-looking brow and ditch the overly manicured look – now I’m fully converted.”

Biggest lesson you’ve taken away during your time with Lien/Brow Confidence?

“Less is more. And that we don’t need tinting, laminating, or any expensive fancy products to have good brows. A $5 paintbrush, a plain matte eyeshadow, and a brow gel are all you need.”

Describe your brows in three words.

“Natural, full and fluffy.”

“I was 14 and I had finally convinced my mum to let me get my eyebrows waxed. The beautician advised that I needed to get my forehead waxed too. Obviously, I obliged… I remember waking up the next day red and with pimples all over my forehead. It was downhill from there until I met Lien!”

What is your current brow routine?

“A brush through in the morning, followed by some brow pomade through the front and tail, and a touch of brow mascara.”

“It took me a really long time to get there, but it means having confidence in my natural brows and not being afraid to step out of the house with bare brows.”

How did you find out about Lien?

“I had just had a nightmare of a brow wax, and I scoured the internet for the best brows in Sydney. I came across Lien (thank God I did!) and sent her an enquiry. She called me soon after for a chat and I recall crying on the phone while Lien attempted to console a complete stranger. I was extremely nervous for my first appointment. Lien was amazing and made me feel so comfortable. She was completely honest from the outset and warned me it wouldn’t be a quick fix. I knew from that point my brows were in good hands.”

“I think I was about 12 or 13 when my mum took me to a salon and said to the beautician, ‘She’s got a lovely shape, but I want to make sure she keeps it that way.’ I remember she was very specific with her instructions to only take away the messy ones at the bottom of my brow and leave the top intact as is. It was during the time of pencil-thin brows, and I think she was scared they would go overboard if they touched the top of my brows.”

What is your current brow routine?

“Brush them up with a bit of Pears soap and a touch of brow mascara near the front of my brows where they are a bit lighter and I’m good to go! When I’m wearing makeup I usually add just a bit of highlighter underneath my brow as well. Since Lien has taken control of my brows, my everyday routine is really simple, easy, and quick! Prior to this, I remember working on my brows for ages with all sorts of different products to try and make them look right and I could never quite achieve the look I was after.”

“Since Lien has taken control of my brows, my everyday routine is really simple, easy, and quick!”

What does “Brow Confidence” mean to you?

“It’s true what they say: good brows change your whole face. Brow confidence to me means feeling good and confident not only about my brows but my whole face. On the weekends when I’m wearing no makeup, I’ll just pop on some moisturiser and sunscreen, brush my brows up with some Pears soap and I’m ready to go.”

How did you find out about Lien?

“My housemate has been going to Lien for years, and I’d always loved her brows. One day, after feeling like my brows really needed a switch up, I asked for Lien’s number and that was that. During my first appointment with Lien she really took the time to teach me about my brows and how they should look based on my face. I remember after my first appointment walking out and feeling like my whole face has just had a facelift! The trimming, and taking away those flyaway hairs at the top of my brows was really the game changer for me. ”

Biggest lesson you’ve taken away during your time with Lien/Brow Confidence?

“Don’t touch them and let Lien work her magic every 5 weeks! During the first bout of lockdown in NSW I could see the brows growing out more and more. I started just plucking a stray here and there just to keep it under control (at least a little). What Lien has taught me is the power of the brow trim, and just how much it transforms not only your shape but brow routine as well. I got a little overconfident and decided to give the trimming a go myself – and then I had instant regret. Luckily, it was lockdown so no one saw me, and I didn’t do too much damage. By the time I saw Lien again after lockdown they had grown out again and she fixed me right up.”

Describe your brows in three words.

“Everyday low maintenance.”

“I was 13, I had a pair of deliciously fluffy, unruly natural brows. It was 2004 and not only did my best friend have naturally wafer-thin, sculpted brows, but so did Mischa Barton. So needless to say, in an effort to achieve thin, sculpted brows (okay, maybe I didn’t care so much about the ‘sculpted’ aspect) I attacked my brows with my mum’s tweezers. This went on for the next 5 years until I started getting them waxed or threaded at random places that could squeeze me in for an appointment on the day.”

What is your current brow routine?

“I alternate between Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil and my trusty Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in the shade Smoke to shape and fill in the gaps as needed. I brush them up and hold in place with Pears soap. I finish off with a few stokes of Hourglass Arch Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel to give them a bit more fluff and fullness.”

“You have to put in the hard work to learn how to do your own brows and transform them yourself using quick and easy techniques.”

What does “Brow Confidence” mean to you?

“Feeling content with the brows I’ve got, and never having to live in fear of having a dreaded ‘bad brow day’. (You know those days when you couldn’t get the shape of your brows right, resulting in painfully overfilling them three shades too dark.) It means having the tools and knowhow to style and achieve your dream brows every day.

It also means having a trusted guru and friend to reach out to when your brows get a little unruly (aka Lien), and you are confident that after every appointment, you’re going to walk away feeling happy and looking refreshed (good riddance to unpredictable and traumatising brow appointments.)”

How did you find out about Lien?

“I found Lien via Instagram about 3 years ago. I remember being in desperate search of somewhere new to get my brows done, off the back of a bad waxing experience right before a big event. When I came across Lien/Brow Confidence, and I was instantly soothed and refreshed after reading about her methodology and brow philosophy, I had never come across anyone like Lien before.

After our initial phone conversation and hearing a few gentle honest truths about how and where my brows needed correction, I was ridiculously excited to meet Lien for our first appointment. I remember being incredibly in awe of how Lien transformed my brows, and how much it changed the shape of my whole face (I still get that ‘in awe’ moment every time I see Lien). One of the other things I noticed about Lien in our initial appointment and I still love to this day, is how much Lien puts me at ease. Lien has such a calming nature about her, I trust and respect her so much and I know can truly relax knowing I’m in the hands of a true expert.”

“[Brow Confidence] means having a trusted guru and friend to reach out to when your brows get a little unruly.”

Biggest lesson you’ve taken away during your time with Lien/Brow Confidence?

“How to correct my brows using Lien’s formula. It’s a technique that I use every day on myself and on my clients as a makeup artist. Once you understand Lien’s formula, there’s no brow that baffles you. Lien has also taught me that your natural shape isn’t usually your most flattering brow shape, and there are no quick fixes when it comes to brows. There are no magic products, quick-fix treatments (micro-blading, lamination) that can fix or transform your brows that work long term. You have to put in the hard work to learn how to do your own brows and transform everyday them yourself using quick and easy techniques.”

Describe your brows in three words –

“Thank. You. Lien.”

By: Wendy Hoang (Lien’s friend/ beneficiary of Brow Confidence!)

About a month ago, on a sunny Saturday morning, a bunch of ladies with the best brows you ever did see assembled at a studio in Sydney’s inner west for Brow Confidence’s first ever brow campaign, Good Brow Days.

This website needed some new pics and Lien’s work deserved to be documented. Pinterest has enough brow inspo to drain a phone battery a few times over, but the problem is none of those images belong to Brow Confidence/Lien so in the name of immortalising the great woman’s work, BC campaign was born and here’s hoping we make a habit of it!

“I wanted these pictures celebrate confidence through self-care. Yes, my business is brows but I didn’t want to lose sight of the women wearing them. The clients (now my friends) in these pictures have been with me for 1-5 years and I have taught them everything I know about their Ultimate Brow Shape and more. They take pride in their brows and know all the tips, and that is what gives them confidence,” says Lien.

The whole project took two months of on-off planning, 8 hours of site visits, 3 glasses of wine, and only two years of convincing…Lien’s low-key like that, bless her. Special thanks to our photographer, Chantell Brown, who caught a 5am flight from Brisbane to shoot for us!

I was also lucky enough to meet Lien’s long-time clients and friends who fronted the campaign this time around: Laura, who devotedly texted Lien 4 times and emailed her 7 to secure one of the first Brow Confidence appointments in Melbourne 4.5 year ago; Morgan, who I wager is Lien’s best pupil and whose dramatic brow transformation I still can’t take my eyes off; Tamara, who’s been with Lien for 1.5 years but whose brows look like they’ve already made a full recovery; Annie, who has better hair than Gisele Bündchen, but still her brows are better; and Jess and Hannah who trump us all, having been by Lien’s side for over 5 years!

We’re pretty chuffed with the result and the new look website. We hope you like it too! Keep following @BrowConfidence on instagram for all the pictures from the campaign – but in the meantime, here are some of our favourites! 🙂
